Pregnancy & Postpartum Support Minnesota

Welcome!

We are Pregnancy & Postpartum Support Minnesota (PPSM), a group of mental health & perinatal practitioners, service organizations, and mother volunteers offering emotional support and treatment to Minnesota families through the perinatal years.

Our Mission: To engage parents and professionals in promoting optimal emotional well-being during pregnancy and postpartum.

If you are a parent seeking more information or support, or a health care provider, or service organization serving new parents, we offer resources that promote emotional well-being for new families. We also welcome your involvement – a way for you to promote emotional health for new families.

About Us

In 2006, Suzanne Swanson, PhD, LP, a St. Paul psychologist, became Minnesota Coordinator for Postpartum Support International (PSI), an organization dedicated to helping women and families suffering from perinatal mental health disorders. Later she began meeting with Minnesota mental health practitioners with expertise and interest in perinatal issues.

By 2007 Pregnancy & Postpartum Support Minnesota (PPSM) had formed and a resource list createdThe Minnesota Perinatal Mental Health Resource List .  This list remains an important resource to Minnesota women and families, hospitals, clinics, childbirth education classes, through doula & midwifery practices, etc. – Available here online (right column menu) and as a .pdf download.

PPSM maintains a presence at local & national conferences, such as NAMI’s Beyond the Baby Blues Conference, Twin Cities Birth & Baby Expo, and Postpartum Support International (PSI) Annual Conference. Additionally, many of us provide talks, trainings, and in-services on perinatal mental health issues to parent and professional audiences.
